Join us for the day, in which we'll have fun in two separate two-hour sessions taught by award-winning autoharp musician Wanda Degen, one of Michigan's most active folk artists. We'll also have the extra pleasure to play a song we've learned at the end of the day with the mountain dulcimer and hammered dulcimer participants. Geared for the beginner through intermediate level player, students will learn tuning tips, strumming techniques, and how to make the chord changes necessary for picking out the melody in a song. In addition, transposing repertoire and chord substitutions will also be covered. A repertoire of folk and vintage pop music standards will round out the workshop and students will receive a packet to take with them for their continued enjoyment. Students should bring their own autoharp - in tune, please - if they have one. For those who don't have an autoharp, a limited number will be available on a first come, first served basis, provided by Elderly Instruments. Please note that the Mountain Dulcimer Immersive Workshop, co-taught by Jan Hammond, Wanda Degen, and DeeDee Tibbits, will take place on Saturday, June 3. Faculty Wanda Degen Instructor of Music, Interlochen College of Creative Arts Schedule Supplies Please try to bring an autoharp that is already in tune. Class time will not be devoted to tuning, but if you come early or stay late, Wanda will help tune your autoharp if possible.
