Register Here Whether you have very little familiarity with the piano keyboard, or no musical background at all, you will find a rewarding experience in this 3-day workshop with certified instructor and music educator Janice Derian. Gain a basic understanding of the keyboard, notation, bass and treble clef, time signatures and rhythm as well as the physical approach to playing while receiving instruction on a professional-grade electronic keyboard with weighted keys. Learn to play by ear and understand intervals, read music with ease, and use two hands with minimal movement. Enjoy playing a melody with the right hand and simple chords with the left. Fun listening activities and ensemble playing throughout the workshop will promote a greater understanding of basic theory for harmonizing melodies. Each student will be provided with a full-sized Yamaha digital keyboard for their own use during the workshop. In addition, a grand piano will be in the classroom for students to explore.
