Horizontal TabsDescription Beading is one of the world’s oldest art forms and beadweaving is a beautiful off-loom technique that can be used to create anything from jewelry to wearables to home decor. Friday, June 26, 2015 Registration Fee: $65 In this workshop, you will learn to create Russian Leaves from award-winning fiber artist and professional beadweaver, Jenny Schu. Russian Leaves are a trademark style for Jenny as she uses them both as the main focal point in her beaded jewelry and as accents in her sculptural fine art work. In this full day workshop, participants will learn the twists and turns of weaving a beaded leaf which can then be turned into earrings or other projects. All registrants will be provided with a needle, thread, and velvet pads or trays to bead from. A suggested supply list for beads and materials will be provided to all registrants prior to the workshop, however, the instructor will also have beads and materials available for purchase the day of. Some beadweaving experience is helpful, but not necessary. The other materials that you will need to complete a pair of earrings is approx 4g of 11/0 Seed Beads (2g of 2 different colors will work) and 1 pair of earwires. The instructor will have plenty of seed beads for purchase if you do not want to look for the specific beads listed below. Items that the instructor will have for purchase, but may have limited color choice: *Dyna-Mite Seed Beads size 11/0 Earwires (instructor will have some sterling silver fishhook earwires and some non-precious metal) Beading Needles size 10 and 12 (instructor uses the longer ones--approx 2.25”) Nymo Beading Thread size D Porcelain Beading Trays Velvet Display Mats Items that you may might want to bring: Ott light / extension cord Whatever you prefer to bead out of (tray, mat, plastic container with low sides, etc) Glasses / magnifier Something to write with / take notes *For this class, students will use Dyna-Mites. These seed beads are preferred due to their higher quality. If you have seed beads from a bead store or brands like Toho, those will work too. Cheaper beads can be frustrating to work with and may not get the look you want. Feel free to bring your bead stash and the instructor will take a look at it and will help you plan from them.
