Daily Schedule and Descriptive Schedule
The 2009 Guitar Festival and Workshop sessions cover many playing styles and topics of interest for all levels of guitarists including classical, acoustic, jazz, flamenco, rock, blues, composing, technique, Tai Chi, recording, reading skills, web resources, tablature, instrument maintenance and problem solving.
On your free time, meet new friends and have a jam session, or stop in and visit with the guitar vendors displaying music, instruction materials, instruments and gear on display and available for purchase. Each day will conclude with an evening concert featuring guest artists and faculty. Participant evening concert tickets are included with paid daily registration fees. Please contact Interlochen's Box Office to purchase additional guest concert tickets.
*Please note that the posted tentative daily workshop schedules are subject to change.
Session Guides
We welcome all levels of ability and non playing aficionados to enjoy this experience. Based on your self-identified playing level, a recommended schedule session guide for beginning, intermediate or advanced levels of ability is available to help each participant decide what sessions would be most beneficial and not over their ability level. In addition Guitar Festival and Workshop Artistic Director John Wunsch is available to answer questions and help you plan your schedule. Please click here to e-mail John any scheduling questions.
For 2009, we have further expanded the offered sessions for beginning level players as well as providing more tablature support materials, expanding technique topics and added bands and ensembles while maintaining the opportunities for participants to jam and practice. Participants can choose sessions ala cart to customize their experience at the Guitar Festival and Workshop.
All classes are labeled as beginning, intermediate, advanced or all levels. Some classes are appropriate for both intermediate and advanced and labeled as such. In assessing your choices of courses and levels keep the following in mind:
Beginning: These classes are for those who have very limited experience. This includes those who have never played, just started playing and have less than one year of experience.
Day One Beginning Schedule Session Guide
Day Two Beginning Schedule Session Guide
Day Three Beginning Schedule Session Guide
Intermediate: These courses are geared to the person who is comfortable with the guitar, but needs more knowledge and skills (this is a level where many adults find themselves). One may be an advanced player in one style, but want to explore other styles or skills for the first time. In this case, the intermediate classes labeled “Introduction to” in that style will be appropriate.
Day One Intermediate Schedule Session Guide
Day Two Intermediate Schedule Session Guide
Day Three Intermediate Schedule Session Guide
Advanced: These classes are geared to those who have experience and good base skills in the particular style or skill being presented. These courses will build on the participants established background with the intention of presenting further information and approaches for the style or topic.
Day One Advanced Schedule Session Guide
Day Two Advanced Schedule Session Guide
Day Three Advanced Schedule Session Guide
All levels: Some courses are in a lecture demonstration format and therefore are open to all levels, including non playing aficionados. While some of these courses will cover advanced concepts as well as important basics, one’s playing ability is not prerequisite to gaining insight into the topic and taking advantage of the material being presented.
