Alvin McGovern

Instructor of Music, Interlochen College of Creative Arts

Alvin McGovern is a performer and recording artist who has taught at the Old Town School of Folk Music since 1974, and the Lyons Township Adult Education program since 1982. He has offered workshops at folk festivals and multiple venues over the years including classes in guitar, harmonica, ukulele, performing, and other music related topics. His knowledge of music theory has enabled him to help banjo, mandolin, and ukulele players discover how to play new chords, even though those instruments are tuned differently from the guitar, his primary instrument. An accomplished singer, both on recordings and on the radio, Alvin has performed as a solo artist and in groups, most notably as the other half of the Chris McIntosh & Alvin McGovern duo, and as a regular accompanist for Miss Carole/Macaroni Soup. He also acted as musician, co-producer, and co-arranger for her Ms. Peterson's children's music CDs: "Sticky Bubble Gum, and Other Tasty Tunes" and "H.U.M.* - All Year Long (*Highly Usable Music)". The second title was designated a 2004 Parents' Choice Approved Award winner. (Both are available on line at http://www.cdbaby.com).
