Francois Carew

Francois has 25 years of guitar experience including 21 years experience on the classical guitar. Francois has studied privately with Paul Vondiziano, John Wunsch, Alex Kommodore and Lee Dyament. As a classically trained guitarist who also plays Nuevo Flamenco/Latin American, rock and blues styles, he brings the perspective of classical techniques into those other styles of music giving him a valued and unique approach to both his performing and his teaching. He has studied in master classes with Nicolas Goluses, Christopher Parkening, Fabio Zanon and William Kanengiser.

Francois is currently in the process of completing a Master of Arts in Music History degree from Wayne State University to complement his dual study in the Bachelors of Music in Performance and Bachelor of Arts in History programs at Wayne State University. Francois’ Tai Chi-Wing Chun background is rooted in his study of Tae Kwon Do, which started at the age of 11. He first studied Tai Chi with Marharlika Kuntao at the age of 23 and in 2000 was introduced to Wing Chun/Tai Chi. He is currently a certified instructor in the Woo Fai Ching Wing Chun/Tai Chi system as taught by Ali Rahim (Cedric Greyson) of the Silent Warrior Association and is the head instructor for Silent Warrior Association’s Detroit chapter.
