Subject matter will focus on still life, from floral to varied subject matter. Vivid, rich color methods of underpainting and layering of paint from washes to thick, buttery paint strokes (impasto) will be introduced. Drawing with paint to create a composition and composing with energy will also be taught. Paint application, color mixing and proper paper preparation will also be presented. Each morning the workshop will begin by painting on paper. Afternoon sessions will be dedicated to works on canvas to further explore technique and individual approaches. One morning may include a campus excursion to paint studies outside if weather permits.
