2013 Theme: Ardent Obsessions
For more than sixty years, adult musicians have come to Interlochen to read, play and polish great works of chamber music together. Chamber musicians from around the world immerse themselves in a week of instruction and performances with a faculty of leading string, keyboard and woodwind musicians. A variety of class options provide an enriching and flexible experience to all participants, including daily reading pairings or intensive study. The Chamber Concert Series features daily performances with the Ensō String Quartet and notable faculty members from leading university musical instrument performance programs.
Our theme for 2013 “Ardent Obsessions” will inform our week together. Objects of obsessions can take many forms as in intense romantic feelings toward an individual; but also equally fervent could be ones’ love of country, artistic vision or even simply an idea that becomes hopelessly fixated. Repertoire programmed for the public concerts and works selected for study in our various sessions will stimulate and provoke. Even well trodden pieces contain surprises, solutions and insights yet to be discovered and for a musician artist, there is no greater obsession!
Piano Duet and Two-Piano participants will have an opportunity to perform in master classes, individually coached sessions and to learn about piano ensemble technique and repertoire.
You may choose one of the following tracks:
“Horizons,” our traditional organized ensemble experience with exposure to a variety of repertoire and ensemble pairings.
“Polestar,” a more intensive study experience allowing a group to focus on a more limited amount of repertoire covered in greater detail. “Polestar” is ideal for pre-formed groups and those individuals who wish to work with one group in a more intense exploration and refining of a piece. Individuals opting for this track will be matched with players of similar experience and interest at the beginning of the week.
Note to Returning Participants
The dates for the 2013 Adult Chamber Music Camp reflect that we will conclude the formal schedule following the final Ensō Sting Quartet concert on Saturday, August 17, 2013. For those participants desiring to play in an organized or pre-formed group on Sunday morning, we will assist in forming the groups; the Music Library and practice studios will still be available. Groups may request to have a faculty member “hear” your group on Sunday, but not all faculty members will be available to provide coaching. Details for the Sunday organized or pre-formed group will be discussed during the Opening General Assembly. Checkout for on-campus lodging will still be August 18, 2013, unless you plan to extend your reservation.
