Program Overview
Drawing from observation is difficult but rewarding and the best way to master the challenges of two-dimensional representation. Becoming aware of what one actually sees as opposed to what one assumes to be there is the first step in seeing and drawing: learning to draw is inseparable from the act of learning to see.
The workshop will emphasize the individual’s expressive response to the visible world. A variety of media will be used to explore issues of representation including composition, perspective and style. Classes will combine sessions in the drawing studio with outdoor expeditions around the beautiful Interlochen campus.
Amy MacLennan and Michael Neary team-teach this course for beginning to advanced students. This course is an excellent preparation for the Plein Aire workshop offered the following week.
