Program Overview
Discuss, develop and write script ideas in one-on-one and small group settings, led by film and television industry writer, producer and director, John Warren.
The Screenwriting Workshop is an immersion opportunity for the serious novice or advanced writer. Sessions will address topics including: Screenplay Structure, Getting it onto the Page, Pitching, Character Development, Writing the Scene, The Script and the Market and much more. Students are asked to view the following four films before the start of the workshop: Chicago, Shindler’s List, Casablanca and The French Connection and Witness.
Set in the beautiful surroundings of northern Michigan, this is an ideal opportunity to grow as a writer, make contacts and build relationships with others interested in this craft. Through the workshop and peer review process, participants will generate an outline of a script that will serve as a starting point for a great first-draft.
Applicants must submit a treatment (one to five pages in length) based on the potential screenplay. This can be based on an original idea or an adaptation of a book. E-mail your treatment files in Microsoft Word or PDF format to college@interlochen.org in addition to completing the workshop registration form.
"Mr. Warren provided a prescription lens that empowered me to see my work clearly. The clarity I gained from the personal group setting was priceless. He truly is a Script Doctor."
