Writers' Retreat

Program Overview

Sharpen your images, improve dialogue, explore metaphors, grow a style and voice all your own and finally gain practical information on how to submit.

At the Interlochen Writers’ Retreat we offer the perfect balance of dynamic workshops, craft instruction and personal writing time in fiction, poetry or memoir.  We offer opportunities for readings, conversations with professionals and colleagues and most important, the practice to gain confidence in your writing—whether you are an apprentice or professional.

In the beautiful Writing House, intimate workshops offer light and insight into your writing process.  Excellent instructors explode the myth that writing must be a lonely endeavor.  Outstanding lessons in craft give you concrete how-to information.  Join the very special writing community that flourishes at our retreats.  Do not wonder if you can write or write better, come do it with us.

"My memoir will not be complete until I include my time at the 2009 memoir-writing workshop.  Words come, and then they go.  If I could paint, I would choose brilliant colors, mix and not match them.  The sun and the moon would not afford enough light to let me see all I experienced, all I ate and drank, all the wise, witty, sad, hopeful and glorious real life stories told."
Roberta J., 2009 Writer's Retreat Participant

The Writing House is uniquely designed for the study and practice of writing. Classrooms are sunny and comfortable, and there is a large common area in the center of the building which hosts various readings and events.
