Writers' Retreat

Program Overview

In the beautiful Writing House, intimate workshops offer insight into your writing process. Writers will learn to sharpen images, improve dialogue, explore metaphors, grow a style and voice of their own and gain practical information on how to submit work.

The faculty will offer a range of dynamic workshops, craft instruction and personal writing time while you explore fiction, poetry, memoir or journal and sketchbook.  The Writers' Retreat offers opportunities for readings and conversations with professionals and colleagues to help writers develop confidence in their writing.  Working within a vibrant community of instructors and fellow writers, the retreat will explode the myth that writing must be a lonely endeavor.

Faculty for this year's Writers' Retreat include Jaimy Gordon, Fiction (2010 National Book Award Winner); A. Van Jordan, Poetry; Anne-Marie Oomen, Memoir/Life Writing; Patricia McNair and Philip Hartigan, Journal & Sketchbook. For more information about these accomplished professional writers and artists, view their bio links below.

"My memoir will not be complete until I include my time at the 2009 memoir-writing workshop.  Words come, and then they go.  If I could paint, I would choose brilliant colors, mix and not match them.  The sun and the moon would not afford enough light to let me see all I experienced, all I ate and drank, all the wise, witty, sad, hopeful and glorious real life stories told." Roberta J., 2009 Writers' Retreat Participant
