Join multi-instrumentalist and educator Alvin McGovern for this two-day workshop aimed at exploring the fundamentals of music theory, using a fretboard instrument as a reference. Through an organized and sequential approach, learn the basic language of music by exploring intervals, inversions, major scales, keys, chord construction, harmony and more. Students should bring a fretboard instrument with them to the workshop, such as a guitar, banjo, or mandolin, but do not need to know how to play it. (Ukuleles have a shorter fretboard and are not recommended for this class). If you don’t have access to an instrument, some loaner guitars will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for those who request them at registration. Whether new to music theory, or seeking a refresher, all students will benefit from the topics covered in this workshop.
