Immerse yourself in the beautiful world of songwriting with Interlochen music instructor, guitarist, and singer/songwriter Kyle Novy. Over two days you will hone your craft and work on new material in a fun, supportive and challenging environment. This songwriting workshop focuses on the essentials, with exercises and tools to help you step out of your comfort zone and inspire fresh ideas and sounds. We'll be working on lyrics, melodies, chords, song forms, production ideas, and more. Get valuable feedback on your own songs, learn from writing with others, and gain insight on what makes certain classic songs work. Whether you've been stuck writing the same song over and over, can't seem to finish an idea, or you're just looking for new ways to expand your sound, you'll find practical tools to help you grow as a musician and writer. Open to songwriters of any level beyond the absolute beginner. You don't need to be a pro, but participants will be expected to have some experience writing songs. Faculty Kyle Novy Instructor, Singer-Songwriter Program, Interlochen Arts Academy Instructor of Music, Interlochen College of Creative Arts Schedule Supplies Students should bring their own guitar or other portable instrument, a notebook and writing utensil (or laptop), any songs in progress or songs you'd like to share. Piano keyboards will also be in the room for writing sessions.
