Jane Berkner

Artistic Director, Flute Choir Camp, Interlochen College of Creative Arts

Jane Berkner has been called a “a versatile performer (and) outstanding musician" by Flute Talk Magazine. As a chamber musician, she has performed with the O’Neil Chamber Players, Cuyahoga Valley Chamber Players, Garth Newel Chamber Players and the Chamber Music Society of Ohio. She and pianist Kim Bakkum have performed for the National Flute Association and at The National Gallery in Washington DC, and their CD, “In Cynthia’s Garden” was described by Cleveland Classical as “wonderfully charming…and magnificently performed.” Along with guitarist Stephen Aron, The AronBerkner Duo has performed across the US and in Italy and France. They have presented concerts and classes at the Eastman School of Music, Shenandoah Conservatory, Ithaca College Conservatory, and the Crane School of Music in New York, as well as for the NFA. Soundboard Magazine says of the duo: “both…are gifted with lovely tone, exceptional technique, and a sense of unanimity that bespeaks much experience playing together.” Jane has played in the Akron, Ashland, Canton and Youngstown Symphonies, the Ohio Ballet Orchestra, and the Botzum Summer Festival Orchestra, and for touring shows at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron, Playhouse Square in Cleveland, and Blossom Center’s Porthouse Theater. A frequent clinician, judge and flute choir conductor at regional festivals and classes, she has been invited to perform and present workshops for NFA conventions in Atlanta, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Chicago and New Orleans. Recognized for her expertise as a flute choir director, she was Coordinator of the National Flute Association’s High School Flute Choir from 2001 to 2006, and in 2014 was named by The National Flute Association’s Flute Clubs and Choirs as one of five Outstanding Flute Choir Directors. As Director of the University of Akron Flute Ensemble, they were invited to perform for the NFA in 2006 and 2014, and in 2010, she took the group on a performing tour of Italy.
